This Saturday, the Nuts & Bolts gang will be at Parks Ferry on Lake Oconee, GA for the final leg of the Georgia Kayak Fishing Tournament Trail. The plastic boat crowd will be there in full force, competing for the honors of being the first GKF Fishing Champion. There will be a festival area at the park, including booths from Navionics, Johnson Outdoors, Hobie, Nuts & Bolts, and more. Plus some outstanding barbeque from Bare Knuckles Barbeque.
The weather is supposed to be ideal, and the fish should be getting ready to put on their feedbags for the winter. So come out and spend some time rubbing elbows with these crazy skinny water paddle-boaters and stop by the Nuts & Bolts booth to stock up on your favorite Whoop Ass Jigs, T-shirts and more. It should be a grand time, and we'll look forward to seeing you there !!!!

Got there around mid-morning. Kayaks had already launched. Oconee is a very beautiful lake, and the Georgia Power Park (Parks Ferry) was the perfect setting for an event like this. Nice beach, great view, good parking and a big pavillion to gather in.
There was a may fly hatch coming off, and the trees were literally filled with them. If you so much as touched a tree, thousands of mayflies would emerge and block the sun. Never seen that many at one time. People were covered with them on their backs and their hats. Good thing they don't bite. !!!
We had some fishing rods for kids to fish with, and there was a small oak right on the beach line, with limbs that hung down to about 6 feet from the ground. A couple of the kids enjoyed slapping the limbs and watching the mayflies swarm around them.
There were at least 6 kayaks given away to the winners yesterday. Hobie's, Oceans, and Wilderness Systems all represented. The tournament series winner won a Hobie Pro Angler with a Torqueedo Power Drive....about $8,000.00 worth of boat, trolling drive, PFD's, paddle, and much more.
I would say there was at least $20,000.00 worth of prizes handed out, plus lots of cash to winners.
And of course, I didn't have my camera with me. Duh. I thought it was in the truck.
