Made it down this evening.   32 degrees when we parked at the hotel.   Mack and Dean put the boat in the water earlier this afternoon and it was blowing a solid 20kts at the marina.

Tomorrow is supposed to be 22 in the morning, warming up to 38 by mid-day.  Balmy.  NOT!!!

We're gonna give it our best shot to catch some trout and reds Tuesday and Wednesday and film a cold-weather episode.  Well, we at least got the cold weather part right.   ;) ;)

More to come.

You are one dedicated fisherman - crazy but dedicated!  ;D  I hope you catch a ton of fish and the best part is if you decide to bring some home for dinner, no need to ice them down!

Bear you forgot the part about once you do find it then the cold hand factor makes it disappear!

Weather forecast sounded like a football game score   24 -  15     24 degrees and 15 mph winds   The weatherman was right, but he forgot to add in theother factor --- a 20 minute boat ride at 30 mph   That's what you call a wind chill factor.

Got to our first spot about 7:30am, set up cameras  and had first reds to the boat in just a few minutes.   Nice fish.   No pictures, but good video.   Will try to add pictures tomorrow.    Fished til  the tide turned about 2pm and we were glad to get off the water.   It was COLD !!!

When we'd net a fish and bring it on board, the water dripping off the fish and the net would instantly freeze on the deck.   That made things a little sporty all day.

At it again tomorrow, and may try to find some trout.

Now that's what you call having a passion for a sport. Or trying to make a hard deadline. Either way it was an adventure... Keep us posted.

Note: Notice I have been inside pretty much all day at work today. I find it's much easier to be a cheer leader when my rump is warm. Don't hate me cause I'm smart enough to come in out of the cold...Hehehehe... ;D

I probably wont be singing that same tune on Saturday... See Tournament...

PICTURES FROM THE TRIP

A nice St. Simons Island Redfish ... water temp 45.6 degrees, wind 15mph, outside temp 28 degrees.

Here's Capt. Cefus, Capt. Mack Farr and Dean Sigmon -- the three muskateers of winter fishing with one of the reds from early morning.

We had a big time on the falling tide.   Several big reds and a bunch of rat reds came to the boat.   Most of the fish had to be released because they were outside of the slot.

Here's another one that fell victim to a chartreuse Whoop Ass Jig.

And another.   The cold weather and harsh conditions didn't turn off the bite.  We just had to slow our presentation down.

You can see how cold it really was by how Johnny, the cameraman. was bundled up.

And yet another nice fish.   We probably caught about 30 reds or more in the morning.   All on artificials... either 1/4 oz WhoopAss Jigs, or 1/4 oz ball-head jigs with electric chicken grubs.

Awesome trip, awesome days on the water.

A great day for those conditions!!!!!!!!!!! Really makes you wonder why some days when the water and air are freezing  they won't eat and other days they bite like crazy. We had a day like that last January 12th, 30 knot winds and cold as ====.  Proves you won't know unless you go.

I noticed a rod with a rear grip of graphite.
How did it handle the reds?
Looks like you hit the gold mine on the reds.
I was snug and warm here.
Might be tempted to try the cold saltwater inshore fishing with a bite like this.

My Coach's Custom Redfish stick worked out just fine.   The graphite grip never failed or slipped, even with all the fish slime on my gloves ---- and there was a LOT of slime.  I'll probably have to burn those gloves  LOL.

Had 10lb test mono on one reel and 15 lb test braid on another rod/reel combo.   Stayed with the mono and the Redfish stick most of the day.   The big ones put a pretty good bend in the rod, and the drag on the Qualia NLF30's and 40's was smooth as silk, even in those conditions.
