I've had several folks call or email me about the Stealth Series Rods from Coach's Custom Rods.  And the Number One question was "How long does it take to make one?"

The answer I usually give is ... It Depends.   Here's why.  Since these are truly custom made rods, it takes Coach about 20 to 30 hours (that's actual working hours) to build a rod.  Now some of that time is when the epoxy is drying on the rod turner.   But most of it is Coach actually sitting in front of his rod building contraption, adding the guide wraps, making the reel handles, etc.    And believe me, he is meticulous when it comes to making sure everything is perfect.  A rod doesn't leave the shop until it passes the Coach Test.  The other factor is how many orders Coach has at any given time.   Again, Coach hand makes every single rod...there's no assembly line.   He does them one at a time.

So, on average, I suggest allowing two to three weeks from the time you place your order and get all your measurements to Coach.

The next most popular question is "Why do they cost so much more than a department store fishing rod?"

Well, part of the answer is in the previous couple paragraphs.   The rest of it is the fact that Coach's Rods have the best components you can get.  Quality costs money.  And the fact that it is a rod built specifically for you and the way you fish.  Custom fabrication comes at a price too.   But with the price comes a superior product, and one that will be able to stand up to the test when it counts.  And, quite frankly, it's a rod that you'll be able to pass down to your grandchildren.

When you think about the things you spend money on, there are very few items that will give that kind of service with that much longevity... and something that produces so many smiles and memories.

So if you're thinking about one for a holiday gift, a birthday, anniversary or other special occasion, I'd suggest taking a look at the Nuts & Bolts Custom Rod link on the home page and get your order started sooner than later.   You definitely won't regret getting a custom rod.

Stealth rod blanks are manufactured in the USA to very high quality standards.  The reel seats and guides are Fuji.

About three years ago, Shakespeare moved all their rod blank operations out of SC(South Cariolina) to ROC(Republic of China). Since then they are using all the blanks to build their own rods and are not making them availible to the custom rod builder. They won't ship just blanks from China. For the most part. I can live without the Uglystick blanks but the White Tiger and their solid glass blanks were some of the best around.

Yeah,,,your right. I could get them before they moved. My favorite rod is the Ugly Stick Custom Inshore. I have never broken one in the seven years I have been using them.

I get my hands on some of the proto-type rods every now and then.
I got some of the Penn Torque "P/T" rods last year ,,a couple of them are solid graphite,,VERY stout!

Anyone seen or used the rod made on the Evolution blank? Sure would like to handle one and check it out. I saw them on a fishing show several months ago fishing out of the Keys and they were catching 15 pound or so groupers and the rod did well.
